Where to shop in Nevis: batik, honey and Charlestown

The small, local shopping of Charlestown, from hand-printed batik to island honey. What to look for and the shops to start with. Each with its own contact details.

Nevis does not do the big duty-free mall, and that suits it. Shopping here is small-scale and local, gathered in the Georgian streets of Charlestown, and the good buys are the ones made on the island.

What to look for

Batik, cotton cloth hand-printed with wax and dye, is the island’s signature craft, made into clothing, scarves and hangings, no two the same. Look too for local honey, jams, herbal teas and hot pepper sauce, and for the spiced rums the island blends. Charlestown’s shops and the craft stalls cover the rest, from island art to woven straw.

The shops

Before you go

This is small-shop, local-hours shopping, so do it in the day around Charlestown. The number on each page is the shop’s own.
