Where to stay in Dominica: eco-lodges, rainforest and dive bases

Dominica is a nature island, not a beach-resort one. How to choose where to stay and the places to start with.

Dominica does not do the big beach resort, and that is the point. Lodging here runs to eco-lodges, rainforest retreats and dive bases, small places built around the nature that brings people in the first place.

Where to stay

Roseau, the capital on the south-west coast, is the handiest base for the southern sights, Trafalgar Falls, the Boiling Lake trail and Champagne Reef among them. Portsmouth in the north sits near the Cabrits and the Indian River. Up in the hills around Trafalgar and Wotten Waven you can stay by the hot springs, and the Soufriere area in the south suits divers. Choose by what you came to do: hike, dive or soak.

Before you go

Rooms are few in number and fill in season, so book ahead, especially the eco-lodges. The number on each page is the property’s own.
