Where to shop in Tobago: Store Bay craft, cocoa and Scarborough

Shopping in Tobago is small, local and relaxed, much like the island. Skip the imported goods and look for what is made and grown here: craft, cloth and cocoa.

What to look for

The craft market at Store Bay is the place to start, rows of booths with shell and calabash craft, carved wood, leather, soaps and cloth. In Scarborough, the market square and the Esplanade cover produce and more craft. The genuine local buy is cocoa: Tobago grows cacao, and cocoa balls, grated into hot milk for old-fashioned cocoa tea, are a real island product, along with local chocolate, batik and handmade soaps.
