Shopping in St. Lucia is best when it is local. Past the duty-free counters, the island makes things worth carrying home: chocolate from its own cocoa, rum, carved wood and cloth.
What to look for
The Castries market, in the middle of the capital, is the heart of it, stalls of spices, hot sauce, produce, baskets and craft, busiest and best in the morning. For the island’s own, look for locally made chocolate and cocoa, St. Lucian rum, and wood carvings turned from local timber. Sea island cotton and woven straw round out the craft stalls.
