Where to shop in Grenada: spice, chocolate and rum

The Spice Isle makes the best souvenirs it sells. What to look for and the stores to start with. Each with its own contact details.

Grenada is the one island where the obvious souvenir is also the best one. This is the Spice Isle, and the spice, the cocoa and the rum that come off it are the whole point of shopping here.

What to look for

Nutmeg is the island’s signature, whole or ground, along with mace, cloves, cinnamon and the little woven spice baskets that gather them together. Grenada’s cocoa is rated among the world’s finest, and the island makes bean-to-bar chocolate from it, a genuine local buy. Its spiced rum, blended with the same nutmeg and cinnamon, rounds out the list. The market in St. George’s is the place to see it all.

The shops

Before you go

The spice market in St. George’s is busiest and best in the morning. The number on each page is the shop’s own.
