Veterinary Livestock Division

Veterinary Livestock Division in Antigua & Barbuda is a government animal health and regulatory unit operating under the Ministry of Agriculture. Its mandate focuses on safeguarding animal health, welfare and public safety by overseeing livestock care, disease control and compliance with local animal health legislation. The division provides a range of official services which include certification of animal health, veterinary consultations, treatment and select surgical procedures for livestock, and inspection of imported live animals, meats and animal by-products to ensure they meet national standards. It also administers import licensing for live animals and animal products, requiring proper documentation such as health certificates, proof of parasite treatment and up-to-date vaccinations before entry is permitted, and enforces quarantine or refusal of entry where necessary. The division plays an essential role in supporting sustainable livestock development, protecting food security and maintaining the overall health status of the island’s animal population, while also serving as the contact point for animal import permits and compliance with veterinary regulations.
