Fort Charles
Charlestown, Nevis
About
Fort Charles is a historic British fort built in Nevis' colonial era, at the height of the sugar trade. Built in the 1630s, the Fort Charles and Nevis experienced wars between the English settlers and other colonial powers. On a rocky point at the south of Charlestown, the fort was at a vantage point for defending against attacks from the sea. Some structures remain in ruins, while other such as a 10-feet high retaining wall, with gun emplacements and a water tank remain relatively intact.
