Where to stay in Trinidad: Port of Spain and around

Trinidad is the busy, working twin of the pair, and it is a city-and-culture island rather than a beach one. Most visitors base themselves in or around Port of Spain, and the capital is the natural home for a trip built on food, music and Carnival.

Where to stay

Port of Spain and its suburbs put you close to the restaurants, the panyards and the nightlife, and within reach of the Caroni Swamp and the north-coast beaches at Maracas. In Carnival season the city is the only place to be, and rooms go months ahead. Away from the capital, stays are quieter and more spread out. For most trips, the capital is the base.
