On a two-nation island, where you stay decides which holiday you get. The Dutch south is busier, brighter and built for nightlife and casinos; the French north is quieter and leans to food and beaches.
Where to stay
On the Dutch side, Simpson Bay and Maho bring the marinas, casinos, bars and the resorts near the airport, lively and central. Philipsburg sits on Great Bay by the cruise dock. On the French side, Grand Case is the dining village, and Orient Bay is the big beach with watersports and beach clubs. Pick the Dutch side for buzz, the French for calm and the table.
