Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) is a statutory body in Antigua and Barbuda responsible for administering the country’s national health insurance system. Established under the Medical Benefits Scheme Act, MBS manages mandatory health contributions from employers, employees, and self-employed persons, which are used to fund a wide range of public healthcare services. Operating from its main office in St. John’s, the Scheme finances medical care provided through government clinics, polyclinics, and Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, including doctor visits, prescribed medications, diagnostic services, and approved treatments. The Medical Benefits Scheme plays a central role in ensuring access to affordable healthcare for residents while supporting the sustainability and operation of Antigua and Barbuda’s public health system.
