Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, formerly known as Mount St. John’s Medical Centre, is the main public tertiary hospital in Antigua and Barbuda and the country’s primary referral healthcare facility. Located on American Road in St. John’s, the modern hospital was officially opened in 2009 and renamed in 2020 in honour of Sir Lester Bird, Antigua’s second Prime Minister. Operated by the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre Board, the facility provides a wide range of medical services including emergency care, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, diagnostics, and specialised clinics, serving residents from across Antigua and Barbuda. As the cornerstone of the national healthcare system, Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre plays a critical role in acute care, public health delivery, and medical referrals both locally and regionally.
